Committee Chair Role Statement
The Chair of the Environment and Climate Change (ECC) Committee (if a committee is created) review advocacy issues related to ECC in Ontario. In conjunction with other members of the ECC Committee (if committee created) and the Advocacy Committee, the Chair is responsible for the development and communication of CFUW OC ECC related policies and activities.
The Chair serves as a member of the Ontario Council Board and as a member of the Advocacy Committee.
The Chair maintains a high standard for Board conduct and upholds policies and Bylaws regarding Directors’ conduct with particular emphasis on ECC responsibilities.
Committee Chair Role Responsibilities
In conjunction with the Standing Committee Chairs of Advocacy, Legislation, Status of Women and Human Rights and Environment and Climate Change, the ECC Chair will:
Participate in the coordination of current advocacy activities, including ensuring compliance with OC purpose and policies.
Review related policies and governmental positions on current ECC issues.
Seek and arrange speakers for Ontario Council Speaker Series.
Work with OC RDs in promoting and disseminating relevant information.
Contribute to any Strategic Plans for OC and its Communications strategy.
Contribute to the OC Newsletter as deemed appropriate.
Attend all OC Board meetings, Advocacy Committee meetings and OC AGM.
WORK PLAN
May – June
As soon as possible after OC AGM participate in a Board retreat/Crossover/Advocacy Committee meeting to determine the theme for the year, topics for Speaker Series, and prioritizing advocacy action and directions.
Discuss communication strategies including update of advocacy tools.
Identify ECC Committee members, Policy advisors and potential partners for identified priorities.
Ongoing
Review Provincial ECC issues through actively following Ontario News and other relevant news sources as well as CFUW National and Provincial resolutions.
Review related policy on current issues.
In conjunction with Chair of Advocacy and President, and with Chairs of Advocacy, Education, Legislation, and Status of Women and Human Rights determine action and contribute to relevant consultations, letters and/or backgrounders for meetings, briefs, workshops.
In conjunction with Chairs of Advocacy, Legislation, Status of Women and Human Rights and Education determine appropriate speakers for OC Speaker Series, establish contact where needed, as well as contribute to appropriate advertising for the Speaker Series.
Submit to Ontario Council Newsletter information regarding speakers and prepare a post session synopsis of presentation to be included in the immediate post event OC newsletter.
Meet with committee members (in person or virtual) to foster advocacy actions.
Spring
Prepare for OC AGM.
Write report for OC Annual Report.
Participate in the reviewing and selecting of recipients in the annual Ontario Council Carolyn Day Award.
In Provincial and Federal election years, help Clubs prepare for elections.
