Membership Chair
Role Mandate
The Membership Chair coordinates the growth, sustainability, and recruitment strategies of CFUW Ontario Council (OC) Clubs. While the Clubs themselves are the official members of the OC, the Chair focuses on supporting the recruitment and retention of individual Club members. This involves researching best practices to engage a diverse demographic of women—spanning all ages and educational backgrounds—whose goals align with CFUW.
The Chair monitors the overall health of existing Clubs, identifies opportunities for new Club development, and encourages active participation in OC events. As a member of the OC Board, the Chair maintains high standards of conduct and ensures all activities uphold organization Bylaws. When possible, the Chair also serves as a member of the CFUW National Membership Committee to ensure provincial and national alignment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITES
Strategy & Development
Action Planning: Develop a comprehensive annual action plan for membership recruitment and retention and submit an Annual Report to the Board.
Policy & Procedure: Lead the development of membership policies and procedures designed to support, recognize, and expand OC Clubs.
Strategic Growth: Identify potential areas for new Club development and actively encourage existing Clubs to participate in Ontario Council events.
Club Support & Resources
Resource Creation: Research and develop practical tools and "best practice" guides for Clubs to use in their local recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts.
Consultation: Act as the primary resource for the Board, RDs, and Clubs regarding membership trends and the formation of prospective Clubs.
National Representation: Participate as a member of the National Membership Committee and bring ideas from National to OC.
Health Monitoring: In conjunction with Regional Directors (RDs), report regularly to the Board on general membership matters, including an overview of Club membership numbers and retention statistics.
Recognition & Awards
Awards Selection: Determine the recipients of Special Awards (member and project recognition) to be presented at the OC AGM.
AGM Presentation: Coordinate the presentation of all membership awards at the AGM, collaborating with the OC Secretary who produces the certificates.
Summary of Authority
The Membership Chair serves as a member of the Ontario Council Board and is required to attend the OC AGM, the OC Speaker Series, and all Board meetings. The Chair operates independently in collaboration with the RDs and may carry out additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
