Elisabeth Sachs

A CFUW member for over 25 years, Elisabeth has been Ontario Council’s Regional Director for the 4 Huron area Clubs: Kincardine & District; Headwaters; Owen Sound & District; and Southport since 2022. She is a Past President of the Toronto University Women’s Club and Headwaters Club, continuing as a member of the latter’s Executive Committee.

With degrees in Civil and Common Law from McGill University, Elisabeth practiced primarily family law in Toronto, Vaughan and Orangeville, spending 14 of those years as an Ontario government Legal Director, then an Order in Council appointment as head of the Ontario Insurance Commission’s Dispute Resolution Group, with responsibility for final appeals in no-fault auto accident cases subject only to judicial review. During her 42 year career she was President of Ontario’s Women’s Law Association and the Canadian Chapter of the International Academy of Family Lawyers; Chair and executive member of several Ontario Bar Association sections; taught in the Bar Admission Course, wrote articles and made public presentations on family and insurance law. Herfondest memories include channeling a love of theatre in the courtroom and mentoring young women lawyers.

Elisabeth retired as principal of her own law firm to run her family’s farm near Grand Valley in late 2020. She is the proud mother of 2 daughters, grandmother of 3 and hopes she has the genetic heritage of her still feisty 101 year old mother!
